Winter Storm Keeps Recreation Athletes At Home The winter storm of February 2007 has cancelled two consecutive weeks of the London Parks and Recreation Department adult athletic leagues. For the second consecutive week the London Parks and Recreation Department has been forced to cancel evening adult athletic leagues due to winter weather. The winter snow came into the Central Ohio area in the early morning of Tuesday, February 13th causing the cancellation of women's volleyball, and turned to ice by the evening causing the cancellation of the men's dodgeball league the next evening. The winter weather also cancelled the Physical Education course for home school students on Tuesday afternoon for the second consecutive week. Madison County Sheriff, James Saban placed Madison County under a level 2 emergency on Tuesday, February 13th at 11:30am, and was still in affect at 11:30am the following day, when Parks and Recreation league officials made the announcement to cancel the Wednesday evening Men's dodgeball games. The Thursday evening COED recreational volleyball league is still expected to take place on February 15th. The winter weather came into the Central Ohio area starting on Monday, February 5th when temperatures dropped below zero. In the first full week of February, the London Parks and Recreation Department was forced to cancel women's volleyball on Tuesday, February 6th and men's dodgeball on Wednesday, February 7th. League officials will be making needed adjustments to the schedule for each league. The updated schedule will be posted online and available for the public on Thursday, February 15th. The London Parks and Recreation Department adopted a new policy for the winter of 2007. Anytime the London City School district closes for the day, the London Parks and Recreation Department will postpone all leagues, activities, and events that are scheduled to take place that day.
