Visit Our Parks!

park logoThe City of London has four park and playground areas that are open to the public from sunrise to sundown, and two private parks that are operated by organizations in the community. The City Parks host softball leagues and tournaments along with basketball and day camps during the summer, along with a family atmosphere for an enjoyable day.  The Parks and Recreation Department also operates a outdoor swimming pool that is open for three months of the year, featuring swimming lessons, swim team, public swim, water aerobics, and other aquatic programs throughout the summer months.

All public parks close at sundown and are prohibited from having any alcohol, illegal substances, or weapons. 

To reserve any facility contact the Parks and Recreation Department to see if your party date is available. After determining the date is available you can complete the reservation by returning the Printable Reservation form.

 

Cowling Park

Cowling Park is located on North Main Street, and features a family atmosphere with playground equipment, picnic shelter facilities, and open green space for afternoon activities. The park is also home to many events including family movie nights, concerts, parades, day camps, and other city celebrations.

The Gazebo
The Gazebo was built in 1986. The Gazebo is a great building to relax at the end of the day... and put that smile back on your face.

Shelter House
The newly renovated shelter house was opened in December of 2007 and features a bathroom facility opened throughout the summer months and weekends through the rental season (March-October). The picnic pavilion can hold approximately 40 people comfortably for a special occasion.

Rental Hours and Cost

  • 8:00am-Noon ($25)
  • Noon-4:00pm ($25)
  • 4:00pm-8:00pm ($25)
  • 8:00am-8:00pm ($50)

Merri-Mac Park

Merri MacMerri-Mac Park is located on Toland Avenue, and is widley known as the athletic park in London. Residents often visit Merri-Mac park for adult softball leagues, basketball camp and tournaments, youth baseball leagues, and BMX racing. Visitors can reserve picnic and/or athletic fields for special group outings throughout the year.

Shelter Facilities
Two shelter facilities are available for reservations at the athletic park. A shelter house is located near the entrance of the park, close to the basketball courts and a small playground. The other shelter house is located near the adult softball complex and a kids play ground.

Athletic Facilities
Available for public use and rent are the athletic facilities including the basketball courts and adult softball fields. The two-full sized basketball courts with aluminum framed acrylic backboards are located on the North side of the park. Located on the south side of the park are two adult sized softball fields with dugouts. The fields dimensions follow USSSA specifications. Any rental of the facility will include the complete field maintenance preparation by the Parks and Recreation grounds crew.

Ohio Erie Trail

trailsThe Ohio-Erie trail is accessible from East Center Street and West High Street  in London. Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy the trail for walking, running, cycling, or even roller blading.  Trails provide a safe area for families to walk, ride bikes or recreate away from automobile and commercial truck traffic. Attractive views, open space and alternative transportation routes significantly increase values and improve marketability of nearby properties. 

Center Street (SR 665) Trail Head
The Center Street trail head was opened in November of 2010 after the Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails completed a 10 car parking lot and 140-foot multipurpose path connecting to the trail. The trail entrance is and 6.5 mile portion of the trail in the city limits is known as Roberts-Pass, named after local leaders that spearheaded the trail project (Wayne Roberts and Gene Pass). 

West High Street (US-42) Trail Head)
The High Street trail head is located at 280 West High Street (London, Ohio), behind the Madison County Senior Center. Visitors to the trail will be able to enjoy a shelter facility for any shade relief or picnic stops. The county portion of the trail that extends to South Charleston is known as the Prarie-Grass trail.

Stanley Park

stanley parkStanley Park is a private park located at 730 Keny Blvd (London, Oh). The small private park includes a shelter picnic facility, and a walking trail. A restroom facility is open to those that reserve the facility during group events using the shelter house. The facility is maintained by the London Community Foundation and the Central Madison Joint Recreation District.

Rental Hours and Costs

  • $50 ($25 refundable if facility cleaned after party).

Park Avenue

The Park Avenue baseball field is home to local baseball teams including the London Area Baseball Council recreational teams, and the London traveling baseball team. 

The park is reserved for practices throughout the summer months starting at 4:00pm each day, however is an open sandlot field for the public to utilize when no other teams are utilizing the field. 

Rental Hours and Costs
Traveling teams and coaches can rent our the Park Avenue facility to host fundraising tournaments or events. The reservation would come at a minimal cost to the club. 

  • $150/day
