In effort to keep our great City of London Ohio Community safe - the London Ohio Police Department has invested in the Speed Stealth traffic speed statistical tracking system.
Average speeds on our roads are being tracked to ensure that traffic speed enforcement is directed to areas with the greatest needs.
The London Police Department has initiated a program to help combat the problem of speeding motorist within the City of London. The police department has purchased a device to monitor speed. That device is known as the StealthStat, and monitors the speed of every vehicle traveling on a predetermined street for a specific period of time. Usually set up in 24 hour increments.
The StealthStat is used to collect the following data:
Survey Location, weather & road conditions, and the posted speed limit
Number of vehicles. (can be separated to directions also)
Highest concentration of speed violators and times of occurrence.
15-minute traffic flows
Speeds grouped in one-mph increments.
Total, minimum, maximum, average, 50th & 85th percentile, (the speed at which 50% or 85% of all vehicles are traveling) through the monitored area.
With the data that is collected, the London Police Department can accurately determine when and where, their are any speed-related problems. The London Police Department can then take appropriate measures for traffic enforcement, based on the data received for the day of the week and time frame of the day, that the study determined the most speeding violations have occurred.
A summary of all StealthStat deployments and results are listed below by street name. Click on the street you wish to see the speed stat results. If your street does not appear and you would like to have a traffic survey completed please e-Mail Chief David Wiseman at
or call 740-852-1414 to make a request. (It should be noted that the StealthStat Does Not record license numbers or take photos of drivers. It is used solely to gather information for speed studies).
