The London Building Department was certified for enforcement of the Ohio Building Code (OBC) in 1997 becoming the first certified building department in Madison County. Construction and alterations to one, two, and three family dwellings were regulated through adoption of the OBOA Residential Code. In 2005, The Ohio Board of Building Standards instituted the requirement that building departments become certified to regulate one, two, and three family dwellings and to utilize certified personnel. At that time, the Board adopted the Residential Code of Ohio (RCO) as the statewide standard for residential construction. The City of London was again the first building department in Madison County to receive certification for its building department and its personnel.
Since then, the services provided by the London Building Department have expanded to include:
Providing enforcement of the OBC in all non incorporated areas of Madison County.
Providing enforcement of the RCO in the Village of Mount Sterling.
Providing back up of inspection services for RCO enforcement for The Madison County Building Department.
Providing back up inspection services for RCO enforcement for the Village of West Jefferson Building Department.
Both the OBC and RCO are viewable on line. Log on to www.ohio.gov and pick “Agencies” and “Board of Building Standards”. Once on the Board’s page, choose the Ohio E-Codes.
