The City of London is consists of two (2) Departments, the Safety Department and the Service Department. The Safety Department is responsible for the Police Department, Fire Department and Building Inspection Department.
The Police Department consists of Chief, Sergeants & Police Officers. Our Fire Department is one of the oldest professional Departments In the State of Ohio, they provide not only protection in the City, but also for Sommerford Township by contract, as well as providing mutual aid to surrounding communities.
Our Fire Department is currently is one of the oldest professional Department in the State of Ohio. We have a Chief, 3 Lieutenants and 8 Firefighters. We have quite a number of part-time firefighters, which are fully qualified as a professional firefighter in the state of Ohio. The City of London Fire Department also has contracted with Sommerford Township to provide fire protection services to that area. We try to have at least five (5) firefighters on per day, which allows us to provide two (2) pieces of equipment during any given day.
The Building Department currently handles all City of London building permit applications, inspections & finals for both residential and non-residential buildings inside the City limits We currently serve as the County’s Building Department for non-residential buildings in unincorporated areas, as well as Mt. Sterling’s inspections.
The City has adopted a Brush Chipping process, this is a slight cost to the resident, you may use the chips or we will haul them away. The minimum cost is $25.00 per ½ hour paid to the Mayor’s Office, made payable to the City of London. The money must be received before the work being accomplished, if there is any overage, you will be billed. The brush must be placed in a manner where the Street Department doesn’t have to drive on your property. Once the Christmas Season is over the Department will pickup any real Christmas trees.
