The Civil Service Commission meets once every second Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Its purpose is to handle the civil service process within the City of London. This is a three (3) member commission that is appointed be the Mayor, with Council’s approval. There are most commonly seen issuing the tests for entry level Police Officer, Dispatcher, and Firefighter. They are also responsible for promotional tests and appeals of any disciplinary action, that is not a contractual matter through collective bargaining.

Planning Commission - 6 Year Term
The Planning Commission is a five (5) member Commission, which consists of three (3) appointed individuals, the Mayor and Safety-Service Director are statutory appointments to the Commission. The Planning Commission meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm, unless there is no information to be presented to the Commission. The Commission accepts change in Zoning Text, change in Zoning Uses, which all have to be completed by a Public Hearing, with proper notice. The Applications must be submitted to the Planning Commission at least thirty (30) days in advance of their next Meeting. Applications for Zoning matters, can be obtained at the Building and Zoning Office.

Tree Commission - 4 Year Term
The Tree Commission has been an ongoing Commission responsible for having the City designated as a Tree City USA member. It is responsible for all the maintenance for all trees in the public right-of-way. They are responsible for trimming, removing and planting new trees as necessary. Every Two (2) years the Tree Commission to pass an Ordinance to place on all properties within the City.

Cable TV Commission - 3 Year Term
Cable TV Commission is responsible for the City’s portion of Time Warner Cables Community Access channel and determines whether or not an item appropriate is to be placed on the channel.

Recreation Commission - 3 Year Term
The Recreation Commission is an independent group of three (3) people that meets on call, an their responsibility is setting up the rules for Parks and Playground within the City. The city currently has numerous Parks such as MerriMac Park, Burr-Wheeler Park, Cowling Park, the City Pool and various portions of the Bike Trail, that are in the incorporated part of the City.
